Here in New Orleans, locals love to have breakfast or brunch at restaurants on the weekends. We relish nothing more than to sip coffee (or cocktails) while lingering over conversation, bacon and poached eggs. The pace of brunch on weekends is a relaxing shift from the hustle and bustle of the week. It's a time to savor the good things in life and live up to our Big Easy nickname.
Similarly, we have many visitors here who need breakfast in restaurants on weekdays, too. Visitors quickly work up appetites while cruising through the French Quarter on foot. Fortunately, we have solutions for both locals and visitors alike. Many of our favorite restaurants serve breakfast and/or brunch daily. Some only serve on the weekends but are worth the visit.
Before we get into the restaurants, let's take a moment to note the difference between breakfast and brunch menus. Breakfast menus consist on only breakfast foods - eggs, bacon, oatmeals, etc. Brunch menus have not only breakfast food items but also other menu items like pastas, steaks or sandwiches (depends on the restaurant). As a general rule, breakfast items on a brunch menu tend to be more gourmet in nature.
Below the restaurants are categorized by whether they serve breakfast and/or brunch. Further delineation is given to establishments serving daily versus those only serving on weekends or Sundays only.

Whatever your craving du jour, our favorite restaurants are sure to provide the variety and options you're looking for in breakfast or brunch. Visit one this weekend if you have the opportunity. You'll be glad you did.
