Latil’s Landing is a one-of-a-kind restaurant located at Houmas House Estate & Gardens in Darrow. With its old wood floors, exposed beams, cypress mantels and fireplaces, you’ll feel more like you’ve been invited into a historic Louisiana home than seated in a restaurant. Outside, the gardens and fountains of Houmas House add to the sense that dinner here is an occasion.
And then there’s the food. Executive Chef Jeremy Langlois has been a fixture at Houmas House for more than two decades, earning a reputation for taking traditional Louisiana flavors and giving them a refined, contemporary touch. Langlois knows our state’s pantry well — Gulf seafood, crawfish, andouille, grits, pecans, sugar cane and seasonal Louisiana produce all find their way into dishes that feel familiar without being predictable. His cooking has helped make Latil’s Landing a dining destination in its own right.
Dinner at Latil’s Landing is built around a multi-course tasting experience, allowing the kitchen to show off a range of flavors over the course of the evening. Menus change with the seasons, but you can expect polished takes on Louisiana and Creole cooking, with optional wine pairings that make dinner even more of an event. If you appreciate wine, be sure to ask about the impressive Wine Cellars at Houmas House before you leave.
This isn’t the place we’d recommend when you’re just looking to grab a quick bite. Latil’s Landing is where you go when dinner is the evening’s entertainment. Come early enough to stroll the gardens, have a cocktail on the property, and settle in for a leisurely meal. It’s an especially good choice for anniversaries, birthdays, romantic dinners and those nights when you want to show an out-of-town guest a side of Louisiana they won’t experience anywhere else.
For New Orleanians, Houmas House is close enough for an evening escape but far enough away to feel like you’ve gone somewhere. And with Chef Jeremy Langlois in the kitchen at Latil’s Landing, there’s a very good reason to make the trip.
